Shabbat Nashira - Let Us Sing
August 13 (6:30pm), September 3 (6:30pm), October 8 (6pm).


A new, soulful musical Shabbat service on select Friday evening starting at 6:30pm

Gentleman’s Agreement - Gregory Peck is a hotshot magazine writer who has been blind to the problem of anti-Semitism in nicer circles; to ferret it out, he passes himself off as Jewish and watches the WASPs squirm.$5 suggested donation for refreshments or $20 for the entire series.

August 4 - Waltz With Bashir - In 1982, Ari Folman was a 19-year-old infantry soldier in the Israeli Defense Forces. In 2006, he meets with a friend from his army service period, who tells him of the nightmares connected to his experiences from the Lebanon War. Folman is surprised to find that he does not remember a thing from that period. Animated documentary.
Cooking Classes: Whatcha Got Cookin?
Sunday, August 8, 2 - 5 pm (note this is a date change from Aug. 15)
Cooking Class-Basic Techniques:
What is a sauté, braise or caramelize? This class will cover some basic cooking techniques and explain when and why you would want to choose one technique over another.
A series of monthly cooking classes is beginning at the HEA. These classes cover a variety of cooking topics, from techniques and stock items, to learning to cook with local seasonal vegetables. Each class will also include a discussion of halacha (Jewish law), Jewish philosophy or Jewish ethics as they relate to the topic being covered!  Each class will include take-home information, light initial refreshments, and samples of cooked items when appropriate.
Cost: $15/person, maximum 20 people.
